Newly-Renovated DCPS High School Renamed John R. Thompson Jr. High School
John R. Thompson Jr. High School was officially dedicated and renamed in honor of legendary Georgetown basketball coach John Thompson Jr. during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the first day of the 2026–27 school year. The celebration brought together DC leaders, the Thompson family, Georgetown University, and the broader community. Beyond Thompson’s historic basketball achievements, the dedication emphasized his commitment to education, opportunity, social justice, and young people, including the 97% graduation rate among Georgetown players who remained for four years during his tenure.
